I first began to read Pynchon over 40...Great post. I first began to read Pynchon over 40 years ago. To me his most accesible book is The Crying of Lot 49. I would recommend neophytes to first read that then to just dive into Gravity's Rainbow. I totally agree with your view that one should experience Pynchon with your own mind.
